Religious Life: Jewish: Welcome

Welcome | Programs | Student Groups | Places of Worship | External Links

THE CHAPLAIN'S OFFICE VIEWS JEWISH LIFE as an integral component of the interfaith community at OWU.  With the assistance of a new part-time Assistant Chaplain for Jewish Community, Jodi Kushins, we provide support and opportunities for Jewish students to practice their religion and share their culture with others.

The Chaplain's Office works with student leaders in OWU Hillel to: connect students with area synagogues and Jewish organizations including including The Ohio State University Hillel and Columbus Jewish Federation. We ensure students have somewhere to attend High Holiday Services and run a student-led Shabbat service program.  Additional events throughout the year such as a Sukkot Celebration, Kristallnacht Commemoration, Hanukkah Party, Purim Party, Passover Seder (interfaith), Holocaust Remebrance, film screenings, and speaker events.

In addition to the support of our part-time Assistant Chaplain for Jewish Life, Chaplain Powers provides counsel for Jewish students with personal or faith issues. In particular matters of belief, they will assist students with appropriate referral and connection to a Rabbi in the greater Columbus area.

We know that it can sometimes be a challenge to observe Jewish traditions amidst a predominantly Christian culture.  Yet we are confident that you can find space to be yourself as part of the OWU community.
