Leslie Center for Peace and Justice: Welcome

THE JAMES LESLIE CENTER for Peace and Justice honors the profound witness to peace and justice that Chaplain Emeritus James Leslie has provided OWU since 1960 and ensures that Dr. Leslie’s commitment to Peace and Justice will live on in perpetuity as an integral core value of Ohio Wesleyan University. Like the Spring Break Mission Program more specifically, the Leslie Center is built on three foundational pillars: Servant Leadership, Restorative Justice, and Transformative Reflection. Our leadership grows from a desire to empower others by restoring the dignity and humanity that is often stripped away by oppression, objectification, and greed. We experience transformation in ourselves, by intense, honest reflection on our experiences, our biases, and the relationships we form. We work for justice, not for the marginalized, but in solidarity with the marginalized.
Over the years, this commitment will take variant forms, as the needs of the world, nation, church, community, and campus change. Take some time to browse through the following pages to get a sense of what we’re already doing and how you can be a part of the work. If you have a vision for something that you don’t find already here, let us know. We’re more than willing to work with you.
