About Us: Welcome

AS THE CHAPLAIN’S STAFF, we seek to empower and enhance spiritual life at Ohio Wesleyan University, to encourage and walk with you on your spiritual journey. We seek to integrate intellectual and spiritual growth, ask provoking questions about values, life choices and ethics, nurture religious faith, build community, and train future leaders for service. We are available for casual conversation and pastoral care. We also maintain close ties to the Delaware community through community-campus partnerships involving local congregations and service organizations.

If you spend much time with us, you’ll probably start encountering some key terms that we like to use. For instance, you’ll hear a lot about vocational discernment—where we explore the idea that everyone has a place where their deepest passion meets a deep need in the world. Or you might encounter the concept of servant leadership—the idea that true leaders are those who are servants first and foremost, who lead because they have found that leading is the best way for them to help empower others. In essence, we believe in you—that your unique existence gives you a place in a world that needs you.

As a staff, we may agree on a lot of things, but we’re not a uniform block. We’re a mix of many faith traditions, many opinions, and many experiences. Ultimately, we’re a community as well—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
